CQC update: An update for professionals working in local authorities and integrated care systems – 27 September 2024
Developing an engagement and health inequalities improvement framework for integrated care systems: progress update
In February, we announced our work with National Voices and the Point of Care Foundation on a Regulators’ Pioneer Fund project.
The project aims to develop an improvement framework for integrated care systems (ICSs) to understand how well their engagement with people and communities is helping to reduce health inequalities. Through focusing on local communities, understanding what people need, and what is working, ICS can improve services and reduce health inequalities for the people they serve. We have published an update on the project on our website.

Local Authority Assessment feedback survey
CQC’s Research and Evaluation team, working in partnership with IFF Research, are launching a series of surveys to capture feedback from local authorities on our assessments.
Each local authority will be invited to respond to 3 surveys reflecting the following parts of the assessment process:
- Information return
- On-site assessment
- Reporting
Surveys will be sent directly to leaders in each local authority with more information. Feedback from the surveys will be used to help inform improvements to the assessment process.
The survey findings will also contribute to an ongoing research project with IFF Research, who are exploring the impact of regulation in system settings. The report from this project will be published in 2025.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact researchandevaluation@cqc.org.uk

Local authority assessments: progress update
Our new local authority assessments allow us to provide independent assurance to people of the quality of care in their area. We published reports of findings from the latest assessments in August, and we will continue to publish reports when completed.
