Update: Changes to factual financial information in local authority assessment reports
In response to feedback and in consultation with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), Local Government Association (LGA), and Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) we are updating the factual financial information that we include in our local authority assessment reports.
The changes will only apply to assessment reports for local authorities where the site visits are undertaken on or after Monday 6 October 2025. For all local authority site visits undertaken before this date, their reports will not be impacted by these changes.
We have published the updated financial information on our website. The changes are being made in response to local authority feedback to add clarity on the financial situations they are facing.
This data is reproduced to show local authority spending on their adult social care delivery at the request of DHSC, MHCLG, LGA and ADASS. This is based on publicly available data which all local authorities must publish annually. It has not been factored into our assessment and is presented for information purposes only.

Article: Mary Cridge updates on CQC’s recent activity
.
In her latest article for Care Management Matters, Mary Cridge, Director of Adult Social Care at CQC, discusses how we are looking ahead to determine the next phases of activity for our local authority assessments. Using all the insight we have gathered from our initial assessments, we are exploring with a range of stakeholders, including providers, what our ongoing programme of local authority assessment should look like.
Mary also discusses our upcoming public consultation on the changes we are proposing to our assessment framework for health and care providers and shines a light on outstanding practice seen during a recent inspection of a Shropshire care agency.
Our commitments, values and behaviours
.
As part of the improvements we’re making to the way we work, we have refreshed our commitments, values and behaviours.
These changes aim to underpin, enable and support all our work as an effective regulator. We developed this approach together with our colleagues, health and care providers, the public and wider stakeholders.
