Social Care Academy
Quality learning all in one place

Today sees the launch of the Social Care Academy for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, supporting care staff with developing new skills and accessing learning opportunities.

The Academy aims to bring together care training and courses across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent into a single, easy-to-access place.

Staffordshire County Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, and the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB) have worked in partnership with Skills for Care to create the Academy as part of a national pilot to establish a social care academy for our area.

What is the Academy

The purpose of the Academy is not just to bring together training opportunities but also to highlight social care as a career. Users can complete training and create their own Career or Training “Passport” through the portal, documenting their progress. The only requirement is that participants must live or work in Staffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent and either work or plan to work in the adult social care sector.

Training offered by the Care Market Development Team and Skills for Care is now accessible through the Academy, which aims to consolidate all available training into a single, user-friendly platform.

Accessing the Academy

Accessing the Academy is very easy. You can visit the Academy website at: www.StaffsStokeCareAcademy.co.uk

On the website, you can find a variety of information to support careers in care. By clicking on “Learning Portal,” you can access the Academy’s learning portal, developed in partnership with Skills for Care. The learning portal offers both face-to-face training and eLearning.

To book training, each user needs to create an account on the Learning Portal. They can then click on “Store” to see what training is available. If they see training they like, they can click “Add” to add it to their cart. Free training will cost nothing and won’t require any payment details. They can then go to their cart, make the purchase, and access their training.

Users can sign up with any e-mail they like, however we recommend they sign up using their personal e-mail address so they can use the Academy to develop their own personal training record.

Shaping the Academy

The Academy is a joint partnership aiming to support the social care workforce across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. The Academy is currently a 1-year pilot, which, if successful, will continue for the foreseeable future.

The Academy will continue to evolve and develop in response to what is needed Therefore, it is up to you, to determine what the Academy becomes and shape its development into something that best supports care providers and the workforce. Consider what training you would benefit from, what eLearning would be beneficial for your staff, or how else we can support you and the workforce.

We plan to commission a series of eLearning for users to access via the Academy and link with health teams to enable them to create their own eLearning for the Academy. Therefore, we welcome any and all feedback on your views of the Academy in its current state and what you want the Academy to become in the future.

We have a dedicated mailbox for any feedback or questions: socialcareacademy@staffordshire.gov.uk
